Terms of use

These terms govern your use of the website printfamilytree.com and, once launched, the PrintFamilyTree online service (together, the “Service”), provided by PrintFamilyTree (the operator's legal name and registered address will be published here before launch) (“we”, “us”). By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. The Service

The Service converts genealogical data that you upload, in particular GEDCOM files, into family tree charts and family history book drafts, and provides related information on this website. Features, plans and prices described on the website before launch are indicative and may change.

2. Accounts

Some features require an account. You must provide accurate information, keep your password confidential and notify us of any unauthorised use. You are responsible for all activity under your account. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.

3. Your content

You retain all rights to the files, data, text and images you upload (“Your Content”). You grant us a limited licence to store, process and reproduce Your Content solely to provide the Service to you, including generating charts and books and keeping backups. We do not sell Your Content, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties except for the service providers listed in our privacy policy.

You are responsible for Your Content. In particular you confirm that you have the right to upload it and that, where it contains personal data of living people, you have a lawful basis for processing it and for any publication you make of the generated charts or books.

4. Generated output

Charts, books and other files generated from Your Content belong to you. You may print, publish, sell and distribute them without restriction. A footer credit is included in output from the free plan; you may not remove it from free-plan output.

5. Acceptable use

You must not use the Service to upload unlawful content, to infringe the rights of others, to distribute malware, to attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or its infrastructure, to overload the Service with automated requests, or to resell the Service without our written consent.

6. Subscriptions and payment

Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, through our payment provider. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You may cancel at any time; the subscription remains active until the end of the paid period. Prices exclude VAT unless stated otherwise. Refund requests within 14 days of a first purchase will be honoured if the Service has not produced downloaded output; consumer rights under applicable law are not affected.

7. Availability and changes

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend or discontinue features with reasonable notice where practicable. We may terminate accounts that violate these terms.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, text and images (other than Your Content and the generated output), is owned by us or our licensors and protected by copyright and other laws. You may not copy, modify or reverse-engineer the Service except as permitted by law.

9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The Service is provided “as is”. Generated charts and books reflect the data you upload; we do not verify genealogical accuracy. To the extent permitted by law we exclude all warranties and are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of data or loss of profit. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the country in which the operator is established, as stated on this page at launch, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection rules of your country of residence. Disputes will be brought before the competent courts of that country.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced on the website or by e-mail at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
